When you look into a goat’s eyes, you’ll notice something unusual—rectangular pupils. Unlike the round pupils we see in cats or dogs, these horizontal slits give goats a powerful edge in the wild.
These pupils allow goats to have near panoramic vision, covering a field of view of about 340 degrees. This means they can detect movement and danger without having to turn their heads, keeping them safe from predators. It’s especially helpful for animals that graze in open fields and mountainous areas.
Aside from their fascinating eyes, goats are highly intelligent, social animals that require regular veterinary care. Common issues include:
-Internal parasites (especially in warmer months)
-Hoof problems from uneven or damp terrain
-Nutritional deficiencies, especially if grazing is limited
Regular deworming, vaccinations, and hoof trimming go a long way in keeping your goats healthy and productive.
