Bathing frequency: Don’t over-do it!

Bathing your pet too frequently can disrupt the normal healthy skin microbiome as well as damage the physical defence barriers making them susceptible to pyoderma, impetigo, bacterial folliculitis etc.
Bathing frequency will depend on the breed of dog or cat you have also on their activity levels. Poodles, for example, can be washed as often as once a week, and unlike other dogs, their coats need to be dried using a blow dryer, as allowing their fur to air dry will result in matting. Dogs with harsh coats will naturally repel more dirt than those with softer fur. A good general rule is once every 2-3 weeks.
Get your cat into the habit by doing it regularly from a young age Overweight cats need to be bathed more frequently as they cannot groom themselves adequetely.
Getting the right balance for the breed and activity level for your pet will benefit from a consult from your veterinarian.
